Day 1 ~ Packing, Departing and Arriving

With an anxious and nervous heart, I packed my bags with camping gear, warm clothing, paper and pens. I headed to the airport at 4:00 AM Friday morning for a new adventure; I was headed to Sage Mountain an Herbal Retreat Center & Botanical Sanctuary located in Barre, Vermont.

My flight left at 6:30 AM where I would fly into Chicago with a 3 hour lay over. Thankfully I had so much time between flights because the Chicago airport is 4th on the list of being one of the world’s largest airports. I wandered around the airport for an hour and a half and finally found my way to the other end, where my flight would depart for Burlington, VT. With an hour and a half left to wait for departure I read The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien and people watched. Finally on board I look out the window as we drift away into the sky and fall asleep.

Luckily for me I had the window seat, so upon awakening I was looking out at rolling green mountains and was stunned at the beauty I was seeing. I had never seen anything like it before and I could not look away. Finally, we landed at 6:30 PM. I picked up my bags and caught a shuttle from the airport to my hotel in South Burlington where I would stay for one night.

Back to the airport I go on Saturday afternoon, where I would wait along with a few other students for a shuttle to take us to Sage Mountain. Traveling through the gorgeous countryside we chatted and got to know one another. Texas, Florida, Wisconsin and Ohio where some of the places people have traveled from to attend this glorious Herbal Retreat.

Finally, we ascend up a mountain where we will call home for 7 days.
